Girl Scout Camp-Out: Troop 242 vs. The Windstorm

We had so much fun with our troop's first over-nighter --- but I can't tell you how glad I am that we were NOT terribly adventurous, and decided to have this in my co-leader's backyard!  This was some of the girls' first over-nighter ever, not to mention first time in a tent. The evening part was just beautiful, perfect weather....
Tent set-up - extra thanks to the dads who stayed to help out
Making dinner
S'mores!!

 Then time for "sleep"....
So we gotta have a story to share though, of course..... the wind was really kicking up as we went to bed, then just got worse & worse.  After 3+ hours of trying to sleep through this massive wind storm, my co-leader & I decided it was enough and we should move everyone indoors.  So she & I left our little tent (all the girls were in one big one next to ours, plus a mom & her daughter in a 3rd tent) and went inside to get the beds & couches ready for a few minutes.  When we came back out to get the girls, our little tent was GONE!  Took us awhile to find it over in the side yard, and by the time we wrestled it into a ball to get it indoors, brought the girls inside to get them all settled (did I mention it was raining by now?) and weighted down the other tents, we finally got to sleep at nearly 2AM..... except by then, none of us moms could stop laughing, so that kept us up a bit longer.... :)

Gotta have a story!

Anyway, the morning was cold but we were able to do the activities as planned for the most part - including earning their patch on "Bugs" which they loved...
Bug hunters
Ants on a log, of course
Whether or not the actual "camping out" part was real successful, at least we've got some fun memories... :)
